Sacramento, CA. March 17, 2015 – The Sacramento County Board of Supervisors is scheduled to hold a workshop on healthcare coverage for undocumented immigrants on Wednesday, March 18 at 2 p.m.
"Even with the implementation of the Affordable Care Act and Expanded Medi-Cal benefits, we have constituents who lack access to health care; it's imperative we carefully explore restoring health services for our county's undocumented population as we begin to consider next year's budget," said Chairman of the Board of Supervisors Phil Serna. "It's important to note that the Board is not taking action today, but rather having an in-depth conversation and hearing from stakeholders about this critical issue."
The Board's discussion will include a history of Sacramento County coverage for undocumented immigrants, an examination of benefits in other counties, changes in benefits with the creation of the Affordable Care Act, impacts of federal and state requirements and potential changes due to the President's November Executive Order on immigration. Lastly, possible options for coverage will be laid out with associated benefits and costs.
