5/20/2024: Attention High School Students - District Attorney Thien Ho announces applications for the Criminal Justice Youth Shadow Day are now being accepted! This program is in partnership with the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office, Sacramento County Probation Department, Public Defender's Office and Sacramento Superior Court. This is a unique opportunity for students to job shadow professionals from various criminal justice agencies and gain a first-hand look at the different roles within the system. Students will be paired with prosecuting attorneys, defense attorneys, probation officers, law enforcement officers, investigators and judges. When: Friday, July 12, 2024 ~ 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Space is limited and on a first come, first served basis. Application Deadline: June 28, 2024. Registration Information.

Don't miss out on this opportunity to engage with criminalists who are experts in the field of forensic science and crime scene investigations. Students will get a hands-on learning experience in blood spatter analysis; bullet trajectory; trace evidence; firearms and tool comparison; and drug analysis. Space is limited and on a first come, first served basis. When: Friday, July 26, 2024. Registration is 30 minutes prior to class start times. Morning Session: 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (lunch will be provided, 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.) or Afternoon Session: 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. (lunch will be provided, 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.) WHERE: District Attorney's Crime Lab ~ 4800 Broadway, Sacramento, CA 95820. 3/4/2024: District Attorney 2024 Citizens Academy - Accepting Applications Now! Interested in learning about the criminal justice system? Our Citizens Academy is an ideal chance for you to broaden your knowledge about the criminal justice system! Topics include the anatomy of a criminal case; specialized areas of prosecution; CSI and crime lab analysis; use of force; innovative programs and partnerships; and community-focused public safety partnerships and initiatives. There is also an opportunity for a field trip to the District Attorney's Crime Lab and Sacramento Police Department's 911 Communications Center. There is NO cost to participants. The 10-week course is held on Tuesday evenings starting April 2, 2024 - June 11, 2043, from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the Sacramento Police Department's Safety Center (5770 Freeport Blvd., Sacramento).
