Sacramento, CA. July 9, 2014 – Corn dogs, funnel cakes and snow cones are perennial favorites at the State Fair, but what will this year’s food craze be? White chocolate bacon or deep fried red velvet cake? Join the Sacramento County Environmental Health inspectors as they work to ensure the 100 + food vendors are following proper food safety practices.
When: Friday, July 11 – between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Note: Inspectors will not be available any other times
Where: Cal Expo, 1600 Exposition Boulevard, Sacramento - check in at Media Center
What: Team of 6-8 health inspectors plus supervisors will inspect every booth, educating operators, and where necessary, help them come into compliance. Spanish speaking inspector will be available.
“Food safety is the bottom line,” said John Rogers, Environmental Health Division Chief. “Most of the vendors at the state fair are pros and follow the rules, but it’s crucial for the health of fair goers to make sure we conduct thorough inspections and insure that everyone is following proper food preparation practices.”
Health inspectors will do unannounced inspections throughout the fair, investigating food-related complaints and providing education to vendors. Inspectors will be looking for:
- Proper hand washing procedures
- Preparation of fresh food every day. No cooling of food for next day use is allowed
- Approved source of food
- Food temperature: Keeping hot food hot and cold food cold
- Ensuring safe water supplies and proper sewage disposal
