Memorial Day Weekend River Safety Awareness Event on May 20, 2015

​Kids Don’t Float Life Jacket Loaner Program

Sacramento, CA May 18, 2015 – Sacramento County Regional Parks, Sacramento Metro Fire Department, Drowning and Accident Rescue Team (DART) and the American River Parkway Foundation are reminding everyone that all children under the age of 13 must wear a life jacket in or around waterways and are once again launching the “Kids Don’t Float” life jacket loaner program on the American River Parkway. Sacramento County Regional Parks will also welcome new Chief Ranger, Michael Doane.

Throughout the Memorial Day weekend, alcohol consumption and possession of open containers will be prohibited on the shore and river on the American River Parkway between Watt and Hazel Avenues beginning Saturday, May 25 through Monday, May 27. Parking fees will increase at County Parks from $5 to $8 per vehicle, and from $10 to $13 for vehicles towing motorized watercraft.

When:  10:15 a.m., Wednesday, May 20

Where:  Upper Sunrise

Directions:

  1. From Sunrise Blvd, heading North, turn right on South Bridge Street and Enter the Park at the Kiosk.
  2. At the first stop sign in the park turn left and proceed under the Sunrise Blvd road crossing.
  3. After crossing the bike trail (please look for bike crossing) park in the parking lot. Event will be setup near the river at the PCA bridge crossing.
