SMF Passes FAA Safety Inspection

Sacramento, CA September 8, 2015 – For the second year in a row, Sacramento International Airport has received top marks from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for passing its annual safety certification inspections with no discrepancies. 

The FAA requires all U.S. airports providing commercial airline services to comply with Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) Part 139.  FAR Part 139 serves to ensure safety in air transportation and defines the standards within which an airport must operate on a daily basis.

The comprehensive airport inspection focuses on such areas as airport rescue/firefighting equipment, training and response times; condition of runway and taxiway pavement, markings and lighting; and accuracy and completeness of records for facility self-inspections.

The two-day review includes meetings with airport management and a nighttime inspection of taxiways and runways.

Inspectors also critique the airport's certification manual – a comprehensive document that includes an emergency plan for a variety of operational scenarios.
