Invitation to First Time Bike Commuters during May
Sacramento, CA. April 22, 2014 – Here’s an idea to avoid and reduce traffic congestion and maybe start a new healthy habit. In recognition of May is Bike Month, Regional Parks invites all bike commuters, especially first time commuters, to use the American River Parkway Watt Avenue Access parking lot as a starting point for their commute.
“The reason we chose this location is to offer a central access point for people who can commute on a bike east or west to the area’s employment centers. People who work in midtown, downtown or old town can enjoy a 10 to 12 mile ride and those heading east to Rancho Cordova, Mather, or Folsom can go a little farther,” stated Jeff Leatherman, Regional Parks Director.
The daily cost of parking in the lot is five dollars. An annual pass that is good for parking at any Regional Parks facility is $50 and is valid for one year from date of purchase. A Regional Parks annual pass can be purchased at several locations and
online.
“This is an opportunity for people to try bike commuting and to experience it for a month. Parks staff will be available at the parking lot to provide information and direction to help new bike commuters to get on their way,” said Leatherman.
The parking program will begin on Thursday, May 1 and conclude Friday, May 30. Parks staff will monitor the parking lot and distribute maps and information about the parkway Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
