Sacramento, CA - On June 6, 2015, Northern California Construction & Training (NCCT) will host a graduation ceremony highlighting the outstanding accomplishments of 31 formerly-incarcerated individuals who have successfully completed intensive vocational and educational training in their efforts to gain employment and reintegrate into the community.
NCCT is a non-profit, community-based organization that prepares individuals for careers in construction. The nine-month training commitment offers participants a chance to complete basic education requirements and learn skills in a variety of trades including carpentry, cement work, electrical, plumbing, painting, landscaping, and forklift operation. Working closely with 22 local labor unions, the program has a 92% job placement rate for graduates.
In December of 2013, the Probation Department entered into a partnership with NCCT and the Sacramento County Office of Education to provide vocational and educational services for clients on probation, post-release community supervision and mandatory supervision in Sacramento County. Since program inception there have been:
- 46 job placements; and
- 17 GEDs or diplomas awarded.
To further support reentry programming, Probation has assisted clients with reinstating their driver’s licenses and repairing and insuring their vehicles in order to address employment and transportation needs. Going forward, the program plans to add a welding component to further support job readiness.
To learn more about how the collaboration among NCCT and Probation has positively changed the lives of individuals in our community, please join us for the upcoming graduation ceremony Saturday, June 6, 2015, at the offices of Northern California Construction & Training, located at 8516 Fruitridge Road, Sacramento, CA 95826.
