Airport Garage Closures Likely as Two Floors Taken Out of Service for Maintenance

July 28 2015, SACRAMENTO, CA - Two floors of the parking garage at Sacramento International Airport have been taken out of service for periodic maintenance work. As a result, the garage is filling to capacity and closing more often than normal. Customers should read overhead signs at the airport to see if the garage is open and if not, park in the daily lot. With fewer garage spaces available and additional traffic going to the daily lot, customers will also need to give themselves more time to find an available space.

The 5th and 6th floors of the six-story parking garage will be closed until mid-to-late August so that the 6th floor can be treated with sealant to weatherproof the concrete.

The 5th floor is being closed as a safety precaution to reduce the risk of cars coming into contact with sealant.  Portions of the 5th floor may be available while work is performed on the 6th, or rooftop, level.

The parking garage serves both Terminal A and Terminal B.

The project is being done in July and  August because dry, warm weather is necessary for the sealant to cure, and because garage usage drops during the summer compared to the rest of the year.

Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays are the busiest days for the garage and are the days that it has filled to capacity and closed.  Re-opening times depend on when customers exit but typically have been mid-afternoon to early evening.

During this same time period,  the Terminal B second-level departures roadway and curb will be closed on alternating nights for sealant work. At least one lane on the 2nd level will be open at all times. Roadway work will be performed from 9 p.m. to  4 a.m.

“We apologize for the inconvenience to our customers. This is necessary preventive maintenance and we are  doing everything we can to minimize impacts on customers,” said Director of Airports John Wheat.

Sacramento International Airport is a self-supporting enterprise offering over 135 nonstop flights on 12 domestic and international carriers to 29 cities.
