Sacramento International Airport Will Stage Emergency Exercise on May 14

SACRAMENTO, CA. May 13, 2014 - Sacramento International Airport will conduct a simulated aviation incident to test its emergency preparedness from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14.
Federal Aviation Regulation Part 139 requires a full-scale emergency exercise at least once every three years. This drill allows airport staff and community first responders the opportunity to perform as they would in a real emergency.
The exercise will not impact passengers or flight schedules.
Besides the Sacramento Department of Airports, participants include Alaska Airlines, Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Dept., FAA-SMF Air Traffic Control, American Red Cross – Sacramento Regional Chapter, US Coast Guard – Air Station Sacramento, the Law Enforcement Chaplaincy, and the CHP.
Signs will be posted to aid the public’s understanding of this simulated incident and notification of the drill will be provided.  If a real emergency occurs during the exercise, the drill will be immediately halted.
