Airport Garage Closures More Likely as Two Floors Taken Out of Service for Maintenance

SACRAMENTO, July 17, 2015 - Two floors of the parking garage at Sacramento International Airport will be taken out of service for periodic maintenance work beginning Friday, July 17. As a result, the garage will fill to capacity and close more often than normal. Customers should read overhead and roadway signs at the entrance of the airport to see if the garage is open and if not, park in the daily lot.

The 5th and 6th floors of the six-story parking garage will be closed until mid-to-late August so that the 6th floor can be treated with sealant to weatherproof the concrete.

The 5th floor is being closed as a safety precaution to reduce the risk of cars coming into contact with sealant.  Portions of the 5th floor may be available while work is performed on the 6th, or rooftop, level.

The parking garage serves both Terminal A and Terminal B.

The project is being done in July and  August because dry, warm weather is necessary for the sealant to cure, and because garage usage drops during the summer compared to the rest of the year.

Regardless of season, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays are the busiest days for the garage and are the days that it is most likely to fill to capacity and close until enough cars exit that it can be re-opened.

During this same time period,  the Terminal B second-level departures roadway and curb will be closed on alternating nights for sealant work. At least one lane on the 2nd level will be open at all times. Roadway work will be performed from 9 p.m. to  4 a.m.

“We apologize for the inconvenience to our customers. This is necessary preventive maintenance and we are  doing everything we can to minimize impacts on customers,” said Director of Airports John Wheat.
